24,000 Liverpool fans voted if they want Coutinho back
Philippe Coutinho is currently struggling to find minutes at Barcelona and a possible return to Liverpool has been put on the line. In a recent survery, 24,000 Liverpool fans voted if they want the Brazilian back on Anfield and the results are a bit surprising.
The midfielder was signed last year by Barcelona in a £142 million deal and his first six months on Camp Nou were more than decent, with 10 goals in 22 appearances. But his second campaign in Spain isn’t exactly what we would have expected from a star like Coutinho. He’s scored just six times in 24 appearances and has found himself starting on the bench for four of Barcelona’s last five La Liga games.
Rumors say that Barcelona will try to sell him this summer in order to make room for Neymar. And that led to a series of possible destinations for Coutinho, including a return to Liverpool.
24,000 fans ended up taking a vote on if they would like the Brazilian back, with four options to choose from – Nope. He made his bed, Yes, but only for a bargain, 100%. Brilliant player and Spend money elsewhere.
According to the results, 71% of Liverpool fans will take him back, but 44% of the total votes suggested that Coutinho is welcomed back only if Liverpool gets him at a bargain price.
Coutinho’s struggles for his current club continued on Thursday night in their Copa del Rey tie against Levante. Introduced as a starter, the midfielder failed to impress and Barcelona lost 2-1 in the first leg.
“When Dembele wasn’t playing, everyone was asking me about him. Now Dembele’s playing and Coutinho isn’t and the reverse is happening. When you do not play and you are not happy, you have to fight to change the situation. Today was a match for that”, said Ernesto Valverde at the press conference, according to GiveMeSport.
The Barcelona manager added that Coutinho is a great player who can help the Blaugrana team when the time is right. Coutinho will have for sure plenty of other occasions to prove his worth, but maybe it’s time for him to speed up at training.
