A new milestone reached by Marcus Rashford in Manchester United – Leicester City
This Sunday ‘s clash against Liverpool was an important moment for Marcus Rashford, as he played his 100th league game for Manchester United, being the second-youngest player to do this. The youngest was none other than Ryan Giggs, who market his ‘centenary’ league appearance at 21 years and 74 days, eventually becoming United’s top appearance maker in the Premier League.
As for Rashford, he played his 100th league game for his club just 95 days after he turned 21, celebrating this landmark by scoring the opening goal against Leicester.
Ever since Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was appointed as interim caretaker, the forward enjoyed a starting role, managing to score six times in eight league appearances. “I’m delighted for him because he’s coming on and he’ll be a top, top player,” Solskjaer was saying back in December.
“The way he’s gone about this job, playing up top, the work rate he puts in, he’s got everything. I’m really pleased that he’ll get goals. But his work rate, all the work he puts in, that’s a big pleasing thing for me – with the whole team, because we should never be outworked by anyone.”
The goal against Leicester was the England international’s 26th in the top league, not to mention that no other Manchester United player managed to score more goals than him in the League, ever since his debut, in February 2016.
Finally, it’s worth mentioning that the current season is his best in terms of goal scoring, with eight on his account. In each of his first two seasons at United, Rashford netted it five times, while in 2017/18 he did it seven times, under Jose Mourinho. As for his recent form, under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, also got him a nomination for the Premier League player of the month award and saw him named his club’s player of the month in January.
