Kevin de Bruyne says Manchester City aren’t as good as last season
Kevin de Bruyne hasn’t been quite the footballer from last season, with some serious injuries affecting the midfielder’s play. And without him to serve those awesome through passes, Manchester City’s game had suffered.
Even the Belgium international is well-aware that the Premier League champions are not on the same level that they were last year. Manchester City continues to fight Liverpool for the domestic title but the Citizens have made too many mistakes for their standards. Jurgen Klopp’s men have a five-point lead with 14 matches remaining.
“This year it is a little more difficult because teams are more compact, and their plans are probably better than they were last year. Last year we would have won or drawn these games with late winners, but we were not able to do that this year. We try to do our best but sometimes the best is not enough, and you have to take it. If Liverpool win the title with 98 points, congratulations, they will have done well”, said the 27-years old playmaker, according to Goal.
However, the Belgium international knows that his team isn’t involved only in the Premier League, but also has other objectives that stand – Carabao Cup, FA Cup and the Champions League. And especially the Cl, where the Citizens have yet to reach the final in any of their previous entries.
Still, returning to the Premier League subject, de Bruyne added that Liverpool are under a lot of pressure given the time that passed since their last title. The midfielder was honest and admitted that Manchester City players also feel the pressure and that in two months time we’ll see who managed to control their emotions better.
A crucial player for the Citizens last campaign, Kevin de Bruyne appeared only in eight Premier League games this season, having to deal with a couple of injuries that kept him off the field.
