Gary Lineker, stunned by Lionel Messi’s goal against Man Utd
FC Barcelona left Manchester United no chances last night, in the second leg of their Champions League quarter-final encounter, obtaining a 3-0 victory and advancing to the next stage, after 4-0 on aggregate.
There’s no doubt that Lionel Messi was the man of the match, after scoring two times against the Red Devils and delivering an overall excellent performance. And if the second goal was pure luck, as David de Gea made a rare mistake, the first one proved once again, if needed, that he is one of the greatest players in the history of football.
The Argentine nutmegged Fred then started a run across the box, before sending a shot into the bottom-left corner, leaving the audience speechless, whether on the stadium or following the game on TV.
Rio Ferdinand, Owen Hargreaves, as well as Gary Lineker were pundits for BT Sport last night. Like everybody else, they were also astonished by Messi’s strike, but the latter’s reaction was something you don’t see too often from a pundit.
As shown in BT’s ‘No Filter UCL’ footage, Lineker looked amazed by the goal, as he turned away from Camp Nou and said “Oh my God,” with his hands on his head.

Obviously, he wasn’t the only one who reacted like this.
Later, he followed up his reaction, by sending a message on Twitter, acknowledging the Barcelona superstar’s talent.
“The incomparable Messi gives FC Barcelona the lead. The nutmeg alone was exquisite, the finish sublime. Nobody else can do this s**t.”
