Manchester United are in a big need of a defender, according to journalist
The draws for the UEFA Champions League knockout phase were announced today and Manchester United is the one with the most difficult opponent, as they are scheduled to meet Paris Saint-Germain, a team who scored 17 goals during the group phase. In order to even stand a chance, the Red Devils should start improving their defensive department in the January transfer window. After all, they conceded goals from teams standing in the second half of the Premier League, so they will have a much more difficult job against the like of Kylian Mbappe, Edinson Cavani, and Neymar says Manchester Evening News journalist Samuel Luckhurst. “The thought of Mbappe, Neymar, Cavani, and Di Maria up against the lot who shipped three at Brighton and West Ham is ominous,” he wrote on Twitter, right after today’s draw.
“Given teams who have fluked it in the Champions League this century, a quality defensive addition next month is all the more essential.”
And he is absolutely right. After all, some of United’s defenders should consider improving as fast as possible, as just the thought of watching some of them trying to keep the rhythm with Neymar is a nightmare for most fans. Apparently, the Old Trafford club is considering a move for Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly in January, but the Serie A team is asking for no less than £100 for the Senegal international, who developed into one of the best central defenders in the world. Bringing him to United could be a very difficult mission, as the board is definitely not willing to spend that much, considering that Jose Mourinho complained numerous times about the lack of support he received in the previous transfer window. But this doesn’t change the fact that his defense needs a refresh as soon as possible!
