Aaron Ramsey will leave for Juventus Turin this summer on a free transfer and Paul Merson had no mercy on Arsenal, saying that the club poorly handled Ramsey’s contract situation.

The Gunners are set to lose Ramsey to Juventus for nothing this summer, with the midfielder agreeing on a deal with the Italian champions. And while most Arsenal fans are in peace with this outcome, despite their regrets in losing Ramsey, Paul Merson has branded his former club “stupid” for letting an experienced player like Ramsey leave the club in the prime of his career.

“It’s stupidity from Arsenal to allow someone of Ramsey’s quality to let their contract run down. It’s yet another player after Alexis Sanchez, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Theo Walcott. Players’ contracts come to an end then they all leave on frees”, said the 50-years old television pundit, according to SkySports.

He continued this speech and compared Arsenal’s situation to when you buy an expensive house and let the leasehold to run out, ending up losing the house. And he didn’t miss the chance to take on Arsene Wenger, saying that the Frenchman took more care of his own contract than sorting out the players’ deals.

Ramsey has won three FA Cups in 11 years at Arsenal and has proven his quality throughout the years. Merson thinks that the Welshman will be a player Arsenal will surely miss.

“Arsenal had a player in Ramsey that was proven. Now they’ve got to go and get someone that probably hasn’t played in the Premier League and will need time to adjust. It’s poor”, commented Mason on the whole situation.

Merson also added that it would take the Gunners £40m-£50m to replace Ramsey, a financial mistake. And given Arsenal’s issues with money, it’s hard to argue him. Club officials have already announced that Arsenal is on a low-budget this transfer window.

Chelsea’s Callum Hudson-Odoi has a price tag of £35m and it seems Bayern Munich really wants him. Merson was quick to spot that Chelsea is going to make £35m from selling a promising player, while Arsenal will get nothing for a proven footballer.
