After one of this Champions League season’s most spectacular games, Tottenham Hotspur managed to eliminate Manchester City and advance to the semi-finals, where they will face Ajax Amsterdam.

However, a lot of people underestimated Mauricio Pochettino’s men ahead of the big game, despite the 1-0 advantage they had from the first leg of the quarter-final. Also, even though he didn’t make this public over the past days, Pep Guardiola was, perhaps, among those who believed that the Citizens are the favourites.

18 months ago, the Spanish manager was convinced that Tottenham are not capable to play at a top level without their main striker, who was absent last night.

“We’re in September. Chelsea won 13 games in a row last season,” Guardiola was saying. “We have United and the Harry Kane team who scores every game two or three goals. Jose with United will always be though.”

Basically, when talking about Tottenham Hotspur, he wasn’t even mentioning them by name, which shows a lack of respect towards his rival.

Still, in the Champions League, the Spurs had the last word, reaching the semi-finals of the competition

As expected, fans were aware of these declarations and immediately mocked Pep Guardiola after the game, somehow satisfied that even without Harry Kane, Tottenham managed to knock his team out of the UEFA Champions League trophy race, therefore ending his dreams of winning “the historic quadruple” this season
