TOP 20 of the football players with the highest salary

The list of the highest paid football players in the world has been recently announced. The salary of these is calculated from the player’s annual salary but also from his bonuses and other income (advertising campaigns, sponsors, etc.). The majority of the clubs in this ranking are clubs in the English Premier League and Spanish La Liga.
There are also three players from China and one from Japan in this ranking.

At the top of this ranking is once again Lionel Messi who had already surpassed the €100M salary bar awarded last year. With a nice sum of 130M€, the latter received 4M€ more than the previous year. Over the past two years, the holder of the five-time Golden Ball winner has increased his earnings by 40% and for the eighth consecutive time Argentina has been at the top of the ranking

His rival, Cristiano Ronaldo, has also increased his income since leaving for Juve from €94m in 2017/2018 to €113m for the current season.

On the third place on the podium is the Brazilian Neymar who, despite a season full of absences, saw his revenues increase by €10 million, gradually bringing him closer to €100 million over a season.

In fourth place is the first Frenchman in this ranking since 2010 and Thierry Henry. World champion Antoine Griezmann overtook Gerard Piqué with a 47.5M€ gap between him and Neymar.

In fifth place is the Welshman Gareth Bale who lost €5m compared to the previous year and is still fifth in the ranking for the third year in a row.
