Manchester United vs Arsenal – Prediction, Odds and Betting Tips

Seven years ago, Manchester United defeated Arsenal on Old Trafford with 8-2. Those times are long gone and now we wonder if the Red Devils are even capable of getting a point against the Gunners on home soil. Manchester looks bad under Jose Mourinho, but we can’t exclude a club with such tradition in any Premier League derby. Last season, Manchester United won both meetings, 3-1, on the road, and 2-1, at home. However, those results were with Wenger on the bench. Can Emery do better?

Manchester United

Manchester United has managed to qualify for the final 16 in the Champions League, but they did it after a disappointing performance against Young Boys Berna, on Old Trafford, winning 1-0 thanks to a goal scored in stoppage time by Fellaini.

Of course, the Red Devils’ game was impossible to change in a few days notice, so we weren’t that surprised to see Manchester United get just a draw at Southampton, 2-2. And it was a lucky one. Armstrong, really on fire for the Saints lately, opened the score in the 13th minute, with Cedric making it 2-0 seven minutes later. Lukaku got United back into the game with his goal in the 33rd minute, while Herrera leveled things up in the 39th minute.

Jose Mourinho’s team is now 7th in the Premier League, with 22 points and a negative aggregate, 22-23. The Red Devils have scored just 8 goals in six Premier League home matches.

The Portuguese is also having some injury concerns, with Lindelof, Darmian, and Sanchez out, while Rashford, Smalling, and Bailly are questionable. Probably Chris will be forced to start, while Young is suspended for one game.

Line-up Manchester United

  • Goalkeeper: David De Gea
  • Backfield: Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Diogo Dalot
  • Midfield: Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Ander Herrera
  • Forwards: Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard

North London is red right now. Arsenal managed to pass by Tottenham 4-2 on Emirates this weekend, in what was probably the best game of the season. The Gunners will now look for another derby, with Manchester United, from the 4th spot of the Premier League rankings. Unai Emery’s men have accumulated 30 points so far, 32-18 aggregate.

Ten minutes into the Tottenham game, Arsenal received a penalty and Aubameyang gave Lloris no chance. But the Spurs quickly reacted and had 2-1 before halftime, after Dier and Kane’s goals. In the second half, Tottenham dominated the first 10 minutes, but after that, there was only one team on the pitch. Aubameyang made it 2-2 with a lovely piece from outside the box, while Lacazette and Torreira scored in quick succession (74th and 77th minute) to bring their team three points and a well-deserved win in a derby.

Lacazette, who had some physical issues lately, once again started on the bench, but we expect him to be part of the first 11 against United. Xhaka is suspended and won’t be able to help his team, so Guendouzi should start instead.

Line-up Arsenal

  • Goalkeeper: Bernd Leno
  • Backfield: Sead Kolasinac, Shkodran Mustafi, Sokratis, Rob Holding, Hector Bellerin
  • Midfield: Lucas Torreira, Matteo Guendouzi, Alex Iwobi
  • Forwards: Alexandre Lacazette, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Betting at Bethard, you have 29/20 odds for a home win, while an Arsenal victory receives 39/20 odds. A draw comes with 5/2 odds at the Swedish bookmaker.

There’s no comparing the form of these two teams, but in a derby, everything is possible. However, we’re going with the one that doesn’t refuse to play football. Arsenal or draw is our first option, ⅗ odds. For bigger odds, you could try Arsenal DNB, 1/1 odds. Our final pick is BTTS, 51/100 odds. Manchester United may not be our first option in any of the derbies this season, but on Old Trafford, Mourinho’s men are supposed to attack and try to score some goals.

All in all, we have three predictions for the Manchester United – Arsenal game – Arsenal or draw, Arsenal DNB, and BTTS.
