The Saints vs the Red Devils, a game for the Heavens awaits us on Saturday. The visitors have just qualified for the last 16 in the Champions League, but they still have a lot of work to do in the Premier League. A win at Southampton is considered a priority by Mourinho’s men. Last season, Manchester United won on the road, 1-0, but failed to get all three points at home, in a 0-0 draw.

Southampton

The Saints stand 18th in the Premier League rankings, with 8 points out of a possible 39, 10-24 aggregate. Before the international break, Southampton got a point out of its home encounter with Watford, 1-1, but after came another away defeat, this time 2-3 at Fulham. At least Southampton solved the issues it had in the attack and has started scoring.

Against Fulham, Armstrong opened the score for the Saints after 18 minutes, but the hosts turned things around with two goals signed by Mitrovic and Schurrle. The former Celtic player got the equalizer for Southampton, but another player also got his “brace”, Mitrovic. Southampton had eight shots on target. As stated above, the Saints at least have this thing working for them.

Ings was out because of an injury, but the striker should be OK to face Manchester United on the weekend. He could replace Austin in the center of the attack.

Mid-week, the Saints played in the ⅛ of the Carabao Cup, at Leicester, losing on penalties (0-0 after 90 minutes). Hughes used three in the back, but the manager should return to his classic formation.

At home, Southampton is without a win, drawing in four games and losing other two.

Line-up Southampton

  • Goalkeeper: McCarthy
  • Backfield: Matt Targett, Jannik Vestergaard, Wesley Hoedt, Cedric Soares
  • Midfield: Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg, Mario Lemina, Stuart Armstrong
  • Forwards: Nathan Redmond, Danny Ings, Manolo Gabbiadini

Manchester United

We should start with what the Red Devils did on the weekend in the Premier League, but Manchester United’s qualification in the last 16 of the Champions League is too important to be placed second. Jose Mourinho’s men won, at home, against Young Boys Berna, 1-0, and with Valencia losing at Juventus, 0-1, the Red Devils have secured their place in the knockout stage of the competition.

The match’s only goal was scored Fellaini in the first minute of added time. No surprise here! Manchester United waited more than 90 minutes to win against a much weaker opponent.

A thing that Mourinho’s men weren’t able to do against Crystal Palace, on Old Trafford, as a side note. That game ended in a goalless draw and Manchester United is 7th in the Premier League, with 21 points in 13 rounds, 20-21 aggregate. The only team in the top half of the rankings with negative aggregate.

Rojo, Lindelof, and Darmian are injured and won’t be able to help their team against Southampton.

Line-up Manchester United

  • Goalkeeper: David De Gea
  • Backfield: Luke Shaw, Chris Smalling, Victor Lindelof, Ashley Young
  • Midfield: Paul Pogba, Nemanja Matic, Juan Mata
  • Forwards: Anthony Martial, Romelu Lukaku, Jesse Lingard

Chuck No Risk Prediction: Southampton – Manchester United

The game takes place on St Mary’s Stadium, Southampton, Saturday, kick-off at 17:30. Southampton – Manchester United counts for game week 14 of the Premier League.

At Bethad, the visitors are favorites to take the win, having 9/10 odds, while Southampton receives 67/20 odds for the victory. A draw has 13/5 odds at the Swedish bookmaker.

Manchester United hasn’t conceded a goal in the last two games, a surprising performance judging from what Mourinho’s defense showed us this season. The Champions League qualification surely motivates the Red Devils, so that gives us our first two predictions. First, Manchester United to win, 9/10 odds.

Afterwards, even with Southampton refinding its offensive appetite, we consider that this is an under 2,5 goals duel. The odds are the same, 9/10. For our final pick, we’ve chosen a correct score – 2-0 for Manchester United. Lukaku may want to renew his relationship with the goals and even with United up 1-0, we’re pretty sure that the visitors will still have their scoring opportunities.

To conclude, we have three predictions for the Southampton – Manchester United match – Manchester United to win, under 2,5 goals, and 0-2 correct score.
